How to find a cleaner for a one-off clean?
WorkDeal · updated 03/11/2026
In short
A suitable cleaner needs a clear picture of the rooms, dirt and expected result. Book a one-off clean with a specific task list covering exclusions, supplies and the areas you will check at the end.
Choose the type of clean, not just a label
Routine cleaning usually means removing visible dust, cleaning floors and doing ordinary kitchen and bathroom cleaning. Deep cleaning goes into more detail: skirting boards, doors or less accessible areas might be added. These labels alone do not define the scope, so list the activities you need.
For move-out cleaning, rooms are often empty and cupboards and drawers may need cleaning inside. Post-renovation cleaning differs from ordinary home cleaning because of building dust and marks left by the work. Describe the spread of dust and any paint or adhesive marks; suitable removal needs separate discussion rather than being assumed.
Provide a comparable picture of the workload
Give the floor area, number of rooms and number of kitchens, bathrooms and toilets. Specify whether the home is furnished and occupied or empty. Describe dirt honestly: surface dust, accumulated grease and surfaces left uncleaned for a long time require different amounts of work.
List activities room by room. For example, distinguish cleaning kitchen worktops from cleaning inside the oven, and floor washing from deep carpet cleaning. Clearly state whether windows, the balcony, cupboard interiors, washing dishes and sorting belongings are included or excluded. Photographs help assess the workload, but remove personal information from them.
Clarify supplies, surfaces and access
Agree who brings the vacuum cleaner, mop, cloths and cleaning products. Identify sensitive surfaces, such as natural stone, oiled wood or specially finished furniture, and share their care instructions. Use products suitable for each surface according to the manufacturer’s instructions; clarify the approach before starting on an unfamiliar finish.
Explain access, the floor level, lift availability and access to water and electricity. Arrange key handover or someone to open the door. Mention pets and organise a quiet separate space for them. Exterior cleaning of high windows or moving heavy objects should not become unexpected extras; choose a qualified professional for hazardous work.
Example: a one-off cleaning listing
Example: I need a cleaner for a one-off routine clean of a furnished 52 m² flat. There are two rooms, a kitchen and one bathroom with a toilet. Tasks are dusting clear surfaces, vacuuming and washing floors, cleaning kitchen worktops and the sink, and cleaning bathroom sanitary surfaces. Dirt levels are ordinary; there has been no renovation.
Window cleaning, oven and cupboard interiors, washing dishes and sorting belongings are excluded. A vacuum cleaner and mop are available; please specify any other supplies needed in your offer. Care instructions for the wooden floor are available. A cat will stay in a separate room during the work. An agreed morning next week suits; we will check the result together at the end.
Offer comparison and completion checklist
✓ Does every offer cover the same rooms and activities? Compare exclusions, not just totals; the pricing guide can help.
✓ Have you agreed who supplies equipment, the estimated duration and access? For help describing the work, see the clear listing guide.
✓ Does the cleaning help cover the required type of clean and dirt level? Before extra work starts, agree how to handle a greater workload discovered on arrival.
✓ Is there time for a final check? Inspect the agreed surfaces, floor corners and bathroom together, and check that supplies have been put away. Identify shortcomings specifically and agree how to resolve them before finishing the job.
