How to find help with furniture assembly?

WorkDeal · updated 03/11/2026

In short

A furniture assembly helper can assess the job when your listing includes the manufacturer, model, instructions and a clear scope. Separate assembly from wall fixing and agree on tools, safety and a final inspection before work starts.

Describe the furniture and the condition of its parts

Give the manufacturer, model and number of items to assemble. If possible, add a photograph of the model label on the packaging and say whether you have the assembly instructions. If not, find the manufacturer’s official instructions before work begins. A similar appearance does not mean instructions for another model will work.

Explain whether the furniture is in new sealed packs, already unpacked or previously used. Check panels, runners, hinges and fittings against the parts list. Mention damaged edges, missing parts and previous repairs, and photograph them. Do not assume the helper can replace missing parts on the spot.

Give dimensions and separate wall fixing from assembly

Give the finished dimensions and describe the room where assembly will take place. Assembling a wardrobe may require more floor space than the finished wardrobe occupies. Say whether packages need moving from another room and whether lifting tall furniture requires another person. Arrange sufficient, competent help for moving heavy items.

Assembly and fixing to a wall are separate parts of the job. Follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions, including anti-tip fixing. If fixing is required, the furniture is not ready for use until it is complete. Wall material, suitable fixings and the location of hidden cables and pipes need checking. Do not treat every drilling task as suitable for a beginner: involve a competent installer if there is any uncertainty.

Agree on tools and additional tasks

Ask which tools the helper will bring and which must be available on site. Follow the instructions rather than assuming one screwdriver will be enough. Agree who will obtain missing fittings and when work must stop if they are unavailable. Any replacement fittings must meet the manufacturer’s requirements.

Describe dismantling old furniture, removing it and disposing of packaging as separate tasks. Specify whether packaging should be collected in a corner or taken away. If carrying is also involved, read the guide to finding moving help. The guide to a clear job listing helps you obtain comparable offers.

Sample listing: agree before starting

Example: I need help assembling one two-door wardrobe in Tartu. The manufacturer and model appear in the attached packaging photograph, and the instructions are available. The wardrobe measures 180 × 80 × 55 cm. The packages are in the same room; the parts have been checked against the list and show no visible damage.

Saturday afternoon works; we can agree the exact start time in the chat. Please bring the tools required by the instructions. Wall fixing must be agreed separately after checking the wall and the manufacturer’s requirements; I will arrange a competent installer if needed. Please collect the packaging together; taking it away and removing old furniture are not included. I will choose “Make an offer”; please specify what your offer covers and whether another helper is needed.

Finished-result checklist

✓ Compare the result with the instructions: all required parts and fittings are in place, with no unexplained leftovers.

✓ Check together that the furniture stands steadily and that doors and drawers move as intended without force.

✓ Make sure the manufacturer’s required anti-tip fixing is correctly installed; do not use furniture while this fixing remains incomplete.

✓ Inspect the surfaces and work area, agree how any defects will be resolved and check that packaging has been handled as agreed.
